What If Mark Zuckerberg Stepped Down as CEO From Facebook?

Facebook Founder Mark Zuckerberg

What will happen if Mark Zuckerberg steps down as the CEO of Facebook? Will the company collapse or it can improve under the leadership of a capable and an ‘experienced’ CEO? Well I think there are more positive aspects of his stepping down as CEO. There are historical incidents related to this, which are in support of my ideology.  Stepping down as CEO by the founders has mostly helped the companies. Examples are the well known Apple, Google and Microsoft.

Alarmingly and disastrous slide in the stock prices have resulted into the half the price of IPO when it all started. Facebook’s major investor Peter Theil sold off nearly all the stock worth $400 million. Is this the end of cool guys’ making headlines? Will he ever make cover page news again? Well, yes of course! But only if he steps aside as CEO for now and give the control of the company in a safer and an experienced hands.

At some point of time one should concede that he is not capable of doing things as things have become large and vast. Zuckerberg is only 28 and has no prior experience. Handing over the CEO post to a more authentic and able person wont be about ignoring the responsibility but will be a future securing step. Tech giants as I mentioned earlier, like Apple, Google, and Microsoft have gone this way, ceded control and it turned positive.

The Apple Incident

Isn’t it surprising that how can a man get fired from the company he founded himself? Well it was not over. He returns to the company he founded after a gap of 12 long years. And that return was so triumphant that still that return is considered to be the key incident in making company ‘the most valued company’ of all time. What happened here? When Jobs was not experienced enough to handle the fastest growing company he had to quit. Later when he returns triumphantly it brought all the laurels and all the optimism to the company. Being dethroned from the same company Steve Jobs founded was no shame. He started from the beginning. He founded NeXT which turned to be the next turning point for the Mac OS and other software of Apple Inc.

The Google Incident

Larry Page and Sergey Brin founded Google. When the business turned huge he headhunted the perfect CEO in his 20’s while enjoying the executive power himself. Eric Schmidt served as a CEO of Google from 2001 to 2011 and Page-Brin continued to learn from him, and actually retained the control of the company with themselves. In 2011 Page was ready to take the helm as CEO. Not to forget that in regime of Schmidt Google saw its transformation form a mere search engine to a powerful global tech house.

The Microsoft Incident

Bill gates was also among the few who step aside from the CEO voluntarily. Gates became the Chief software architect while his old friend Steve Ballmer was made CEO. And now the record of Ballmer is also astonishing as I believe all is depended on the release of much anticipated Windows 8.

So, these are the examples of some CEOs exit which at some stage turned to be positive for the company. But lastly it is not my company and it will not work according to my notions. I believe there are more intelligent people sitting out there at Facebook headquarter. My best wishes to the Facebook’s billionaire for his cool company. I often remember the dialogue from the movie ‘The Social Network’ goes “Money, or the ability to make money, doesn’t impress anyone around here.”So true.
